This is a story of angst, not the focussed teenage kind that anguishes over unrequited love but the kind anxiously accumulated through to our mature age. So many things we wanted to change for the better, yet so many examples of the opposite. We just need to watch the news for evidence. For some it's easy to become cynical ... and like that mysterious Hollywood stranger who threatens to come to town, cynicism seems to loom near. So, I say somewhat disheartened, let this song serve as a warning.
P.S. I suspect a lot of albums need to have one of these songs.
lyrics
Verse 1:
How can anybody ignore a baby
Lying wounded in the middle of a road?
How can anybody not tread softly
When what they do affects the folks below?
Chorus:
I can see you coming
Yes, I can see you coming
Down main street
Verse 2:
How can anybody use your money
Then call you to account for the overload?
How can anybody promise you a heaven
When they're building a hell in the land below?
Chorus:
I can see you coming
Yes, I can see you coming
Down main street
Verse 3:
How can anybody abuse a woman
Then set her aside to carry the load?
How can anybody scar a planet,
When we all need to call it our home?
Chorus:
I can see you coming
Yes, I can see you coming
Down main street
